Applying eyeshadow just isn't as simple as it may seem you don't just sweep colours over your eyelids hope for the best that isn't how it works bees ! To achieve " the prefect look" you need to have the knowledge on what tools to use, eyeshape, language yes there is a language !! , and the different techniques that you can do. It all sounds so complicated but don't worry I'm here to help.
(1) Eye shape By knowing your eye shape you are able to determine how the eye shadow is going to sit and stay on your eyelids. There is a varity of eye shapes which is kind of confusing, monolids which means your eyelids don't have any prominent creases and run straight to your brow bone. Deep set eyes tend to have more prominent creases and brow bones. Hooded eyes have a layer of skin that covers or hides away the creases of your eyelid and tend to make your eyes appear so much smaller than they are Selena Gomez is a perfect example of someone who has hooded eyes. Upturn eyes have a natural uplift at the outer Corner of your eye Angelina Jolie has an upturn eye shape and downturn eyes have a slight drop to the outer Corner of your eye. (2) Language Who would have thought there is a language to applying eyeshadow don't worry I'm going to teach you !! You will notice in nearly all professional make up tutorial they use words for each part of the eyelid these are the key words that you need to know upper lash line, crease , outer v, waterline, lower lash line, inner Corner and brow bone. Just by knowing these key words makes it so much easier when applying your eyeshadow. I will include a picture below showing each part of the eyelid. (3) Tools There is a wide range of make up brushes to select from when applying your eye shadow. A standard eye shadow brush allows you to apply a considerable amount. A blending brush is an essential by using a blending brush it gives you a smoother and flawless look it removes any harsh lines. Pencil brush a pencil brush are great for applying a darker shade to your crease and highlighting the inner Corner of your eye. Angled brush which is excellent for applying cream eyeshadows as a liner and it really completes the look well. (4) Primer Primer should become your best friend it provides a smooth and even canvas for your shadow and it holds the shadow in place prefect for a long day . I use smash box 24 hour photo finish shadow primer which I find excellent and would strongly recommend it, it makes the shadows look so much more pigmented than they really are and they tend to last so much longer than with out the primer. (5) Textures There is so Many different textures of shadows available by knowing all the different types you will be able to make a diverse range of looks. Loose eye shadow has a powder consistency to it,it's best to apply this shadow with a brush as they can be slightly messy. Pressed shadows are the shadows that you see in your everyday eyeshadow palettes they are the most common type they come in a range of finishes matte, satin, and shimmer. cream shadows tend to come In little tubs they are great for creating a dewy look they are extremely smooth I normally tend to use them as a base just due to the pigmentation of them. Bees ! There you have it 5 basic steps for beginners when applying eyeshadow I really hope you found this useful. Until next time - Queen B Is brown the latest colour trend ??
